Why Is Toronto Car Insurance So Expensive?

A clean record helps, but it is not the only thing determining what you pay.

Toronto drivers are paying almost $4,000 a year ๐Ÿ˜ณ

A recent report compared auto insurance costs across six Ontario cities.

Toronto came out as the most expensive, with an average premium of approximately $3,997 per year.

For comparison:

Hamilton: $3,096
Oshawa: $3,038
Windsor: $2,929
London: $2,879
Ottawa: $2,519

So why is Toronto so expensive?

It is not just your driving record.

Insurance companies also look at the cost of claims in your area.

That includes:

๐Ÿšจ Vehicle theft
๐Ÿ”ง Higher repair costs
๐Ÿš— More expensive vehicle technology
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Rising parts and labour costs
๐Ÿ“ Where you live and drive

Modern cars are also expensive to repair.

A bumper today can contain cameras, radar, sensors and other technology, turning a relatively small accident into a costly claim.

What can you actually control?

Your postal code may be difficult to change, but you can still:

โœ… Keep a clean driving record
โœ… Choose your vehicle carefully
โœ… Bundle Home + Auto
โœ… Review available discounts
โœ… Compare insurers before renewal

The company that gave you the best rate three years ago may not be your best option today.

That is why I recommend reviewing your insurance every year, not simply accepting the renewal.

Before your renewal, review your liability coverage, accident benefits, collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, and deductibles.
